Lions Baseball Lands Two on All-Region Team

Trinity Bible College was pleased to learn that two members of it’s baseball team were selected for first team All-Region for the North Central Region of the NCCAA. Congratulations to Brent Holt and Ben Snyder!

Brent Holt, SO. Meridian, Idaho: Timberline High School
1st Team All-Region: Outfield

Brent had a noteworthy season, in just his sophomore year. Brent paced the Lions with a .308 average, along with two doubles, a triple, and a .426 on base percentage in only seventeen games. In the field, Brent collected 19 put outs, along with an assist, while he saw time in every defensive position in the outfield, as well pitching for the Lions on several occasions. “Brent is beginning to come full circle with baseball, last season he really worked on knocking the dust off, this season he was working on improving every aspect of his game” said Coach Strong. Holt particularly worked on pushing the ball to the opposite field, and had particular success in collecting opposite field hits later on in the season”, Strong said “He and Matt (Fellers, team captain) worked hard on his approach to the plate when Matt went down with a broken thumb. Brent stepped in and did a really nice job for us. Matt really gave him confidence in being patient with that outside pitch, and pushing it the other way. I was happy with his effort, he still has considerable work to do with his fielding, but I think next year we could see Brent rise to a whole new level if he allows himself to. He also has a strong desire to step into leadership in the future, which is something that is certainly on the horizon.”

Ben Snyder, FR. Epworth, IA: West Dubuque High School
1st Team All-Region: Short Stop

Ben truly defines a gritty defensive short stop, he was one of only two freshmen to be selected to the All-Region team. For the season Ben had a .286 batting average, four doubles, one homerun, and was 4 for 4 on stolen base attempts, his season highlight came against Martin Luther College when he went 5 for 8 in a two game span. In the field Ben collected 33 put outs, 43 assists, and had a mere 8 errors. Coach Strong said, “Ben was simply a pleasure to have on the team, he is the right mix of brains and skill. On top of being a President’s Scholarship recipient, having a 4.0 GPA through his freshmen year, he is also an outstanding athlete. He has great versatility and consistency in the field and was never lost on a batted ball. Fourteen months ago I had the pleasure of meeting Ben and his dad for the first time, I can honestly say that I never imagined he would be as talented as he is. He has considerable work to do this off season as he plans to add 10-15 pounds by next season, and to increase his lateral range. He is currently playing in a summer league in Iowa, the extra games will be a huge benefit for us come next spring. With Ben anchoring us at short stop, and as he develops as a pitcher we have a very good future ahead of us.”
