The 2008 Trinity Lions football season looks to be an exciting one! This years schedule has the Lions playing five home games. A few changes in the schedule this year have Trinity fans excited about watching the Lions take on four new teams. These include MSU-Bottineau, Concordia (JV), Kentucky Christian, and St. Scholastica. The season kicks off with an away game on September 6th at the University of Minnesota Morris. The following week has the Lions at home to take on a tough NAIA opponent, South Dakota School of Mines. Bob Tatum Field looks to be rockin’ again for the start of another season at home! The Lions look to take the road again the following week with a trip to Bottineau, ND, to take on MSU-Bottineau. The following three weeks has the Lions at home taking on Martin Luther, Concordia (JV), and a second game against MSU-Bottineau. The Lions always look forward to the home field crowd that is filled with TBC students, faculty, staff, and our friends from Ellendale. After the three game home stand, it will be time to head east as the Lions take on Kentucky Christian on October 18th. This week will be the scheduled “Fall Break” week on campus but the Lions will continue to work hard and get ready for a tough road game at Kentucky Christian.

This trip will certainly be one of the highlights of the year for the Trinity football squad. It combines the opportunities for educational awareness, ministerial service and athletic participation. Head Coach Eric Slivoskey grew up in western Pennsylvania, attended college in Maryland and has several ties to the area. Coach Slivoskey commented, “I’ve been looking forward to the Kentucky Christian trip for quite some time now. Our administration has given us the go ahead to extend the trip to the nation’s capital and I see this as a wonderful opportunity for our student athletes.” Our athletes and our whole staff will be taking part in service related ministry involving an inner city food outreach program, cleaning and grounds maintenance, teaching Sunday school classes, performing skits, and sharing personal testimonies. “Being a part of something like this will allow all of us to look outside of ourselves and connect with others who are in need and keep the game of football in a more balanced perspective.”
We are also excited about the chance to visit many historical sites and places that have a lasting significance in our nation’s history. We plan on turning the players loose one day in Washington D.C. so they have the freedom to explore all that it has to offer and extend the learning environment outside the classroom. Also, the Lions look forward to the gridiron matchup with Kentucky Christian. “It will be a tough challenge for our squad, but I believe our guys will work very hard to prepare for this game.”
Finally, it is important to acknowledge all of the people who make a trip like this a reality. The economic challenges of this trip are tremendous, but we are grateful to everyone who has contributed in some way. Kentucky Christian is providing some meals for us as well as taking care of our accommodations in the area. The Assembly of God churches in Paris, Kentucky and Arlington, Virginia are also providing us lodging and some meals along the way. Our bus driver, Steve Holte, is helping us with several contacts, transportation itineraries and driving, and contributing some food from his bus ministry. The Lord has really blessed us in creating the means for us to make this trip.
