The Trinity Bible
College Lady Lions welcomed family, friends and fans to Ellendale, ND this past
weekend for a couple days of exciting games. They first held “Senior Night” on
Friday night in which after the game they honored their two seniors, Treva
Nutter and Shianne Montgomery. Then on Saturday after their game they held “Parents
Night” in which the Athletic Department and athletes honored their parents for
all their support this basketball season.
The Lady Lions hosted Fort Berthold Community College out
of New Town, ND for their weekend games. It was the first time either team has
played each other and it proved to be a couple exiting games starting Friday night.
The Lady Lions grabbed the lead early but Fort Berthold did not give up as they
would fight back and got within six points heading into halftime 38 to 32. Both
teams were shooting the ball fairly well from the field, an identical 38.9
percent (14 for 36). The difference was the three pointers as the Lady Lions
went 6 for 17 on threes in the first half compared to Fort Berthold’s 0 for 9.
Forth Berthold did hold the rebound edge at the break with nine offensive
rebounds and 27 total boards, compared to the Lady Lions 6 offensive rebounds
and 22 total. The Lady Lions were being paced at halftime by senior Shianne
Montgomery who had 16 first half points on 6 for 12 shooting.
The second half was a back and forth affair that saw the
Lady Lions take control only to see Fort Berthold tie the game or take the
lead. The two teams traded leads and ties throughout the second half. The Lady
Lions finally took a seven point lead with just over two minutes to play, but
Fort Berthold got within one point with just seven seconds to play and had to
foul junior Kylie Flemmer. Flemmer made the first free throw and missed the
second as Fort Berthold grabbed the rebound and raced down court. They failed
to get a shot off before the buzzer sounded and the Lady Lions escaped with a
two point win 69 to 67 on “Senior Night”. The Lady Lions were led in the win by Shianne
Montgomery’s 20 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Joining her in
double figures was senior Treva Nutter who recorded a near quadruple double with
17 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 9 steals. Junior Kylie Flemmer added 15
points and freshman Janae Droste pitched in 10 points. The Lady Lions grabbed 18
offensive rebounds in the game and has 22 steals and forced 31 Fort Berthold
turnovers.
On Saturday the two teams got a rematch and this time it
was for “Parents Night”. The Lady Lions raced out to an early lead in the start
of the game. The Lady Lions built a 21 point lead in the first half only to see
Fort Berthold battle back to within 10 points. The Lady Lions ended up taking a
13 point lead into halftime 37 to 24 and were being led by junior Kylie Flemmer’s
14 first half points. Fort Berthold was again winning the rebounding battle 24
to 18 over the Lady Lions.
In the second half Fort Berthold kept fighting eventually
taking a one point lead only to see the Lady Lions take back the lead and
control the game. Fort Berthold outscored the Lady Lions in the second half 39
to 36 but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Lions went on for the 10 point win 73 to
63. In the win the lady Lions were led by senior Treva Nutter who had a double
double with 28 points (20 in the second half), 10 steals, 7 rebounds and 5
assists. Shianne Montgomery added another 20 points and 8 steals, while Kylie
