The Trinity Bible College Lady Lions went into Tuesday night’s meeting against rival Presentation College Saints riding a three game win streak from the weekend. The Lady Lions and Saints split 1-1 in their two meetings last season with both home teams holding court. The Lady Lions were looking to win for the first time in a while on Presentation soil.
The Saints jumped out to the early lead taking a 1 point advantage 7 to 6 over the Lady Lions with 16 minutes left. The Lady Lions responded by going on a 12 to 7 run to take a 5 point lead 23 to 18 with eight minutes to go. The Lady Lions would hold their biggest lead of 10 points over the Saints 32 to 22 with 3 minutes to go. The Saints would close the Lady Lions lead to 6 points at halftime 40 to 34.
The Saints came out strong in the second half taking the lead back after going on a 9 to 2 run to take a 1 point lead 43 to 42 with 17 minutes left in the game. The two teams would find themselves all tied up again at 47 apiece with 15 minutes left to play. The Saints would take back control with a 4 point lead with ten minutes to play in the game. The Lady Lions would get within 2 points of the Saints with just under two minutes to play but the Saints would hold them off going on to win 77 to 72.
In the loss the Lady Lions were led by senior Shianne Montgomery who had 19 points (6 for 11) and 9 rebounds. Junior Kylie Flemmer added 13 points and 7 rebounds while Treva Nutter pitched in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. The Lady Lions shot 40 percent (26 for 64) from the field and struggled from 3 point land going 5 for 19 (26 percent). The Lady Lions also had 34 turnovers but they did win the rebounding battle with 45 rebounds compared to 36 for the Saints.
The loss drops the Lady Lions to 7-6 on the season with one game left for the semester. The Lady Lions travel to Valley City, ND to face Valley City State University on Friday, December 7th at 5:30pm.
