Jamestown,
ND: The Trinity Bible College Lady Lions
basketball team went on the road for their seventh road contest in their first
nine games of the season. The Lady Lions travelled to Jamestown, ND to face off
against #11 ranked NAIA Jamestown College Jimmies. Heading into the contest the
Lady Lions were 4-4 on the season and the Jimmies were 8-1 and ranked #11 in
NAIA.
The two teams got locked in a battle for the opening half
with the Lady Lions hitting a three pointer from Kylie Flemmer to tie the game
early at 3 to 3, just 3 minutes into the game as both offensives were looking
to find their rhythm. The Jimmies then went on a 7 to 0 run to take the 10 to 3
lead over the Lady Lions with 15 minutes to play in the first half. Then it was
the Lady Lions’ turn to make a run, they would answer with their own 8 to 0 run
taking their first lead of the first half at 11 to 10 with 12 minutes to play
in the first half. After that the Jimmies responded taking the lead back for
good, with their biggest lead to that point in first half coming with four minutes
to play in the half 32 to 22. The Lady Lions did trim the lead back down to six
with two minutes to play in the first half but the Jimmies would hit a half
court shot as time expired to take a 14 point lead into halftime 42 to 28 over
the Lady Lions.
The second half was all Jimmies. Their defensive pressure
seemed to frustrate and stifle the Lady Lions offense. The Jimmies outscored
the Lady Lions in the second half 44 to 7 and held the Lady Lions to 2 for 27
from the field. The Jimmies offense found a rhythm as well in the second half
as the shot 42 percent (15 for 35) from the field and 50 percent (6 for 12)
from three. The 11th ranked Jimmies beat the Lady Lions 86 to 35 to
move to 9-1 on their season and the loss drops the Lady Lions to 4-5 on their
season.
In the Loss the Lady Lions were led by senior Treva
Nutter who had 11 points and senior Shianne Montgomery added 7 points and 10
rebounds. The Lady Lions shot just 22 percent (12 for 54) from the field in the
game. They did manage to grab 13 offensive boards and cause 15 Jimmie
turnovers. The Jimmies out rebounded the Lady Lions 57 to 36 and forced 6 Lady
Lion turnovers.
