The Trinity Bible
College Lady Lions basketball team hit the road again for its third straight
road game to start the season. The Lady Lions headed north to Belcourt, ND to
face off against NIAC conference foe Turtle Mountain Community College. The
Lady Lions headed into the game with a 2 game winning streak on the line.
The Lady Lions would come out strong to start the contest
going on a 9 to 2 run to open the game. They then would continue to apply to
the pressure to Turtle Mountain and turned the 9 to 2 run into an 18 to 4 run
to start the game over the first 6 minutes. The Lady Lions biggest lead of the
first half would come two minutes later as they would hold a 23 to 7 lead over
Turtle Mountain. However, it wasn’t all Lady Lions in the first half as Turtle
Mountain would fight back using a 10 to 1 run to close the Lady Lions lead down
to 24 to 17 with 6 minutes to play in the first half. The Lady Lions would
answer back with another big run of 13 to 5 to close the half out and take a 37
to 22 lead into halftime.
The second half started out a little different with Turtle
Mountain hitting a couple three pointers to draw closer to the Lady Lions and
after the first 3 minutes they got within 10 points 40 to 30, but that’s when
the Lady Lions defense would tighten its grips for the remaining 17 minutes of
the game. Both teams offenses would struggle to score over the next 7 minutes
as the Lady Lions went on an 8 to 3 run taking a 48 to 33 lead with 10 minutes
left in the game. After that point the Lady Lions offense found some rhythm and
to finish out the game for the win on a 21 to 6 run, and defensively holding
Turtle Mountain to only 9 points in the
last 17 minutes of the game.
The
Lady Lions 69 to 39 win over Turtle Mountain Community College moved them to
3-0 on the season. In the win they were led by junior Kylie Flemmer (Beulah,
ND) who had 15 points, 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Joining Flemmer in double
figures was senior Treva Nutter (Thedford, NE) who had a great all around game
with 14 points, 8 steals, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Also in double figures was
freshman Aaren LaRose (Holbrook, AZ) with 12 points on 4 for 11 on threes to go
with 3 assists and 3 steals. The Lady Lions had 21 offensive rebounds to go
with 28 steals and cause Turtle Mountain to turn the ball over 41 times.
The Lady Lions next
game Tuesday, November 13th at Mayville State University, and then
they have three more games to finish out the week, Thursday, November 15th
at home against Dakota State University,
Saturday and Sunday at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND.
