The Trinity Bible
College Lions football team traveled just 40 miles south on highway 281 Saturday,
November 3rd to face rival Presentation College Saints. The rivalry
if you want to call it that is only a year old as Presentation College recently
added football to its Athletic Department in 2011 and the two teams squared off
in the Saints first ever college football game in school history. That game saw
the Lions come out on top 39 to 13. The Lions were looking to get back on the
winning track as they headed into the game 3-6 on the season and the Saints
were 1-8.
The Lions kicked off to the Saints to open the game with
a 51 yard kick from Christian Troxler (West Memphis, AR) to the Saints 14 who
returned it all the way to the 48 yard line. The Saints then used 5 plays,
going 52 yards to score on a 19 yard touchdown run taking an early 7 to 0 lead
after only 2 minutes. The first possession for the Lions saw a snap go over the
head of the quarterback and one go over the punter’s head giving the Saints the
ball back on TBC’s 5 yard line after only 4 plays. The Saints then scored 2 plays
later on a 3 yard run taking a 14 to 0 lead. The Lions woes continued on their
next drive as they would give up a safety to the Saints while trying to punt.
The Saints would add a 21 yard field goal after a 13 play, 61 yard drive. The Saints
held a 19 to 0 lead after the first quarter.
The Saints added a touchdown on a 13 yard pass and catch
just seconds in to the second quarter pushing their lead to 26 to 0. The Lions offense
struggled in the second quarter to find a rhythm and the Saints would add a 29
yard field goal, 3 more touchdowns and another safety. The Saints lead at
halftime was 50 to 0.
The third quarter saw both teams offenses struggle as the
defenses tightened. Both teams would trade punts and fumbles. The Saints would hold the 50 to 0 lead after
the third. The Lions would find the endzone early in the fourth quarter. Following a 10 play 71 yard drive that took
over 4 minutes off the clock, Johnny Perry (Fort Worth, TX) scored on a 3 yard
touchdown run. The Lions would strike again this time on a 1 yard touchdown run
by Victor Smith (Rialto, CA), which capped a 12 play 82 yard drive. The Saints
lead was cut to 50 to 12 with over 5 minutes to play. The Lions scored one final
time in the game after another long drive. The Lions drove 71 yards using 7
plays, finished off by a 3 yard touchdown run by Johnny Perry. The Saints held
on to win 50 to 18 over the Lions.
In the loss the Johnny Perry rushed 24 times for 143
yards. The Lions defense was led by Daniel Rodriguez who had 7 total tackles
and Seth Petersen added 7 tackles as well. The Lions were held to 169 yards of
total offense on 76 plays. Turnovers and miscues proved to be costly for the
Lions as they fumbled the ball 8 times and lost 5 of them. The Lions held Presentation College to 239
yards of total offense on 56 plays.
The loss drops the Lions to 3-7 on the season with one
game to play. The Lions finish their season Saturday, November 10th
at Haskell Indian Nations University at 1pm.
